RE: Bright lights in neighbors back yard

Not sure if the OP lives inside the city limits of Tyler, Texas or not, but it appears from this document file that Tyler has legislated light trespass laws. Lighting Code Not sure of the origin of the doc file or the validity of the claims, but a legal recourse is less risky than some of the others offered here. Many thanks for this info. I will investigate Monday. The property is definitaly inside the city limits. I wonder why the police did not know of this ordnance. I was told there was nothing they could do. Perhaps I talked to the wrong sgt on duty.

RE: Satellite in Trailer

I did this just a short time ago. I purchased from Radio Shack two male connectors and installed one on the outside and one on the inside connected with a short coax cable. Works fine. Messing with the inside wingard connector was too complicated for me. Good Luck..

RE: Bright lights in neighbors back yard

I would suggest starting with assault rifles. If that doesn't work then give some hand grenades and mortars a try. If they still don't comply, 2,000 pound laser guided bombs is the next option. If that doesn't do the trick then going nuclear is the only viable option. You know, I never thought of taking this route. I still have some hand grenades left from my last trip to Alaska. I had several boxes then for the tour busses. I would throw at least two under every bus.

RE: Your Fuel/Oil comments - please post here

I bought gas at 3.08 at an Exxon station near the interstate yesterday. I have one of their .30 cents per gallon off cards, so I got it at 2.78. Hope this is just the start of it.. The new Exxon/Mobil Credit Card gives you $0.30 off a gallon for the first 60 days and only $0.15 off a gallon after that. Yep, I know that, but .15c is better than nothing. I'll take it..

RE: Bright lights in neighbors back yard

Thanks guys for all your comments and suggestions. I am going to investigate the local zoning laws and see if I can get some relief there. Talking to the people is of no use. She is the nutty one, always thinking someone is breaking in. When we were still talking she said the houses on both sides of her were broken into. When I talked to the police, I asked them about it. They had no record of it. She also said someone had broken into her house, took a shower, and cooked breakfast. Then left the dirty dishes. She has no trespassing, beware of dog signs and the signs from the burgler alarm companies posted prominently around her house. I never see the husband. For the time being I am going to continue building the fence. I already have 3 8' sections up and it blocks the light from my bedroom. I am still P.O.'d that I have had to go to this trouble and expense (have you priced 8' fence boards lately) in order to block the neighbors light from my house. (there is a chain link fence separating our property and I am putting it far enough back so I can get behind it and paint it (that is still an option) Thanks again..

RE: Bright lights in neighbors back yard

I like the paint idea. A bb gun would be my next thought. Actually how about you put up a light that will point directly into their home at night. Maybe they will "see the light" so to speak. Several have suggested this solution. It won't work. They own a business and are not at home at night. Perhaps the rap music in the daytime would do the trick, except I cannot stand the sound of it myself.. Thanks for all your replies. I will solve this thing without bloodshed yet..

RE: Bright lights in neighbors back yard

Cat, I did suggest a motion detector when I made the initial contact about the light. The suggestion was rejected as absurb. They were not going to do anything about it. I did consider a pellet gun attack, but it would be rather obvious where it came from.

RE: Bright lights in neighbors back yard

Why can't you use a window shade(s), it's cheaper? Again, it's my wife. She doesn't want a shade in the bedroom. We have blinds and they do not block out the light completely. The light also shines into other rooms of the house. I would have had to move my TV in order to watch it.

Bright lights in neighbors back yard

Bright light in neighbors back yard. I am looking for some advice and thought that this would be the best place to seek it. My neighbors behind me are paranoid that someone is always trying to break into their house and have installed a very bright mercury vapor light on the rear of their garage. It lights up my bedroom like it was daylight. I tried to reason with them, but their answer was it is my yard and I will do as I please. I called the police to see if their was some ordnance against this, but there is not. I have started constructing an 8' fence to block out this light and it is working very well. I want to paint the backside of the fence in florescent orange and green colors, but my wife disagrees. She said I would bring myself down to their level. I want them to see what happens when you have inconsiderate neighbors. What do you all think, should I paint it or not?

RE: Changing jobs, anyone else make a long commute?

Thank goodness I don't have to contend with that problem any more. I bought a car in Dallas and since there is no dealership here I had to go to Dallas for warranty work. I looked upon that trip like a trip to the dentist. I think you should go for it. The benefits far outweigh the commute and in a few years you will have that all behind you. Good Luck..

RE: Tony Romo - Incredible Story! You won't believe it!

He seems like he is on the order of Roger Staubach. I was stationed with him in the Navy in Pensacola. A genuine nice guy.

RE: Trip with dad, brother and Hanna

Experiences like that are what makes this "hobby" worthwhile. I envy you. My Dad and brothers are all gone now. We are getting ready now for a week on a local lake for a family reunion. My oldest son is taking vacation and we will spend that time fishing.

RE: If I move to Texas-Where???

Cannot be done. The first one, taxes on your list gets you. I do not believe there is "any place" in TX where the taxes are $1500 or less on a $150,000 accessed house. Yes, TX has no state income tax but they raise all their money through property taxes, (school city, county and hospital taxes). Most areas tax from 2 to 3 percent of accessed value and accessed value in TX is the full market value of the home. I have several homes in Tarrant (Ft worth area)and Denton County. They are taxed around 2.63 percent of full market value. That would be $150,000 X 2.63 = $3945 in taxes a year. Yes, you can find some a little lower but none anywhere near $1500. Liriope Makes you wonder if the no state income tax is worth it. In California (the land of high taxes) we only pay 1% on property tax and it is limited to how much it can go up each year. But we do have a State income tax. If I had to pay 3% on the current value of my home it would exceed what I pay in California income taxes. For the past few years the property tax paid is a deduction on your Federal Income tax. Don't know if the incoming administration will continue it tho.

RE: If I move to Texas-Where???

I moved to East Texas from Florida (Pensacola) and found that my taxes were a lot higher than in Fla. Taxes are locked in if over 65. East Texas is a nice place to live, excellent hospitals, lots of lakes and Several state parks close by. It will not meet your temp. requirements tho,it does get hot and humid here in the summer. If I had it to do over I would look at the Hill country. It is pretty expensive tho. for decent property. Good Luck..

RE: 2 Monday Night Football Games tonight?

That's a new one to me also. I notice that one is at 7:00 and the other at 10:15. I guess they had too many teams to fit into the time schedule. Don't watch Monday night football any more unless Dallas is playing since Meredith is not on any more..:W

RE: Dump Station Story

They are usually the same (type) person that is ahead of me in the checkout line at the grocery store. They wait until the bill is totaled, then start digging in their purse for their checkbook, proceed to write a book (it seems like) when writing the check, then proceed to enter the check, do their arithmetic, put the check book away then pursue the receipt and finally move on . They have utterly no concern for the other person. You find them everywhere.

RE: Where did you go for Gustav?

We didn't go, but were on the receiving end. We had a houseful from South Texas, and our church opened up the family life center for over 200 special needs persons. I hope all are back home now and doing well..

RE: Travel Trailer Inspection

The State of Texas says you are to have your travel trailer inspected once a year. How many people actually do this? Do all states require state safety inspections? I have had my trailer since July 02. It has never been inspected.:B

RE: Generator noise

I don't have a Champion, but have one of like quality that I bought at Pep Boys 3 years ago when Rita came through. I had to use it last week when a storm knocked out our power for about 5 hours. It would not run my home AC, but it handles everything else. I believe I paid about 350.oo for it. It is 3750 Watts and will run the ac on my trailer..
